While it does provide some cushioning, it falls short compared to traditional shoes such as “Hokas” or “ASICS.” Opting for these shoes was a deliberate choice on my part, as I sought an introduction to the world of barefoot footwear with just a hint of cushioning for added comfort. Toes box wide enough to accommodate splay correctors.
After extensively researching reviews, I finally took the leap and purchased my first pair of barefoot-style shoes, which happened to be these. Determined to address my misaligned toes, the aftermath of failed bunion surgery, and enduring arch pain that has plagued me for far too long, I decided to transition from my usual high-quality, leather, and supportive New Balance shoes – the only footwear I could tolerate for extended periods without experiencing unbearable discomfort – to these shoes. Upon slipping them on, I was pleasantly surprised by the generous toe box room and height, accommodating my wide 8.5 4E ladies’ foot perfectly. There was approximately 3/4″ of extra space for my toes beyond the shoe’s nose. The fit was surprisingly comfortable, although when I added socks, they took up slightly more room than I would have preferred. Further, when I incorporated toe spreaders and socks, the fit remained comfortable, yet I recognized that I might opt for a half-size larger if wearing toe separators with these shoes. I am delighted to report that my feet are no longer in pain or sore from transitioning to shoes with minimal support. Admittedly, my feet do feel fatigued, signaling that both my feet and calf muscles are undergoing a retraining process. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this purchase.

I’ve owned these shoes since 7/19/23 and have utilized them extensively for a different purpose than originally intended – playing disc golf. I must say, I’m thoroughly impressed by their durability, especially considering the punishing nature of concrete tee pads, which tend to wear down shoes rapidly. Despite playing an average of three times per week, these shoes show minimal signs of wear and tear. While they excel at wicking water away, they don’t dry as quickly as I initially expected. Nevertheless, their ability to repel water effectively makes them highly versatile shoes, ideal for achieving that “barefoot feel” even when not used for water-related activities. It’s worth noting that some individuals have voiced dissatisfaction, mistaking these shoes for waterproof rather than water shoes. However, it’s essential to recognize the distinction – water shoes are designed to wick away water and dry swiftly, not to provide complete waterproofing. I opted for these shoes due to the reputation of water shoes for their durable soles and sturdy yet flexible uppers. So far, they’ve exceeded my expectations, offering a barefoot feel and boasting a resilient sole with minimal signs of wear, despite extensive use on concrete and cement surfaces. While comparisons with other shoes may not be entirely fair given the differing levels of use, it’s evident that these shoes hold up well against the common issue of spongy soles with thin rubber tread patterns wearing away prematurely.

They proved to dry quickly when exposed to moisture and remained durable throughout multiple 2+ mile walks. While they didn’t match the comfort level of my regular sneakers, they surpassed my expectations in terms of comfort. However, the rubber material caused them to produce more noise than usual, both in wet and dry conditions, resulting in louder footsteps and occasional squeaking when walking. In summary, these shoes are well-suited for wet weather conditions and provide sufficient comfort for extended walks. While they may not fully replace my everyday sneakers or walking shoes, I find them valuable enough to keep in my collection. They offer a versatile solution for occasions where staying dry is a priority without sacrificing style or comfort entirely. Despite their slightly louder nature due to the rubber material, these shoes prove reliable and resilient in various weather conditions.
